Puttering Around: Vacation/Memorial/US Women's Open Recap
I’m on vacation this week. I could not have picked a worse week to not have access to live golf. Between Memorial and the US Women’s Open, it was a lively week. I’ll be back next week to preview the US Open!
Until then, I have concocted two things for you to enjoy while you impatiently await my return to the keyboard.
The first is a list of things from the week I liked and didn’t like, a la Zach Lowe. I didn’t want to copy the excellent ESPN writer though, so rather than spend hours and hours like he does working on the piece, I took about 30 seconds.
I like Muirfield Village & Olympic Club.
I don’t like Jon Rahm’s positive COVID test up 6 strokes.
I like Yuka Saso representing the Philippines and the young guns.
I don’t like Lexi Thompson’s back nine collapse.
I like multiple tournaments heading to playoffs.
I don’t like seeing Collin Morikawa lose the additional hole.
I am confused by the Memorial Tournament being the weekend after Memorial Day; seems like that would be a good time to have it.
The second is a list of factual statements so I can prove I watched/looked at the ESPN app last weekend
YOU WON AWARD: PATRICK CANTLAY AND YUKA SASO
YOU LOST IN A PLAYOFF AWARD: NASA HATAOKA AND COLLIN MORIKAWA
YOU TIED FOR 26TH AWARD: PATTY TAVATANAKIT, JENNIFER KUPCHO, IN KYUNG KIM, MARINA ALEX, CAMERON TRINGALE, XINJUN ZHANG, DANNY WILLETT, ADAM LONG, CHRIS KIRK, AND JIM HERMAN
YOU LED THE FIELD IN DRIVING DISTANCE OR ACCURACY AWARD: BRYSON DECHAMBEAU AND BRENDON TODD
YOU MISSED THE CUT AWARD: WAIT SORRY THIS WILL TAKE WAY TOO LONG TO INPUT ALL THE NAMES
Call my words that Patrick Cantlay won “opinions” or “hot takes” but it’s how I feel. See y’all next week, I can’t wait for Torrey Pines!
