Ranking the 6 Original Avengers
What Marvel has done in 12 years is magical. Since Iron Man was released in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has released 23 movies and adds multiple every year, along with a bunch of TV shows. Despite much less recognition than rival DC, which boasts superheroes like Superman and Batman, Marvel has built an incredible group of heroes that make the ill fated DC Extended Universe (DCEU) look weak. Carrying the torch for the MCU is the Avengers, Marvel's superhero team which has rose from Who are 6 people who have never been in my living room? to Avengers:Endgame, which was the highest grossing film ever. However, some of the original 6 who catapulted the MCU to worldwide fame would be better superheroes than others. We rank the Avengers on their abilities as superheroes.
6. Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner)
Who has 2 thumbs and no supernatural abilities? This Hawkeye. Sure, he's fantastic with a bow and arrow, but name a famous archer. Hawkeye could be a fantastic SHIELD agent, or even a notable military/intelligence leader, but when in the presence of mind-bending talents, Hawkeye just can't compare to superhuman, mind boggling talents. Barton is like a good pickup basketball player. He's better than most people, but it's not fair to put him on a court with Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
5. Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson)
Black Widow is like Hawkeye in that she has no special abilities, but she partially makes up for it because she's one of the world's great spies. It's ridiculous think she'll win a fight against Thor or Iron Man, but her skills are undeniably good if you're expectations aren't supernatural. If this was the real world and not a place where superpowers roam, Romanoff would be at the top of any list of great fighters. Unfortunately, the universe she occupies is one where unthinkable things can happen, like a shawarma place being open in New York after an alien attack.
4. Bruce Banner AKA The Hulk (played by Edward Norton, followed by Mark Ruffalo)
The Hulk was perhaps the most recognized of the Avengers at first, but as time has gone by in the MCU, he's shrunk to the background. Like left field at Fenway Park, the Hulk is a powerful green monster with a level of strength that can never be equaled. However, he's very inconsistent, like a bench spark plug in basketball. When the angry version of Bruce Banner gets "on," almost nobody can stop him. However, that's a big if. As he showed in Avengers: Infinity War, Banner can't always become the Hulk. Also, when in Hulk mode, he struggles to make good decisions. These issues have been resolved with Professor Hulk, with him retaining the smarts of Banner and the strength of Hulk in one body. Despite this convenient combination (read as: screenwriters cheating), the Hulk doesn't have the all around abilities to carry and lead the team the way the top 3 can.
3. Tony Stark AKA Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr)
This is a controversial spot to put arguably the protagonist and man who jumpstarted the empire known as the MCU. However, Tony's limitations lie in the fact that he's a normal man. Yes, his suit makes him a superhero, but it won't be too long until the next brilliant super villain can think of a way to jam the tech sensors and make Iron Man known as normal man. With the unbelievable things Marvel villains have been able to do, it's only time before they take the next step to stopping Iron Man's suit from working.
2. Steve Rogers AKA Captain America (played by Chris Evans)
Captain America is one of the great feel good stories of the MCU. From a skinny New Yorker to a muscular super soldier, Cap's integrity has stayed. He's undoubtedly the nicest guy in the Avengers, if not the world. Unfortunately, his final product is just a super strong guy. As we saw in Captain America: Civil War, Cap and his combination of strength and smarts (along with Bucky Barnes) were able to take down Iron Man. He's a hero for the ages, but he pales in comparison to the intergalactic god that occupies the number one spot.
1. Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth)
Thor takes the #1 spot because he's a literal god, while the others are humans. The other people on this list have physical limitations. Thor has none. He can fly, he has strength is superhuman, and he's the only one in the universe worthy of lifting Mjolnir. He gained a lot of weight in Endgame, but I'd take an out of shape Thor over anyone because of his godly strength. My only complaint is his odd relationship with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster.
